Welcome to TUMO Amsterdam – your free pass to the future of tech and design! Soon to be launched in a striking new building in Amsterdam Southeast, just steps away from the metro station Kraaiennest. Here, teens aged 12-18 can master skills that most adults wish they had: create video games, produce music, build robots, design digital art, and code.
TUMO Amsterdam is brought to life by an impressive team: Amsterdam Public Library, City of Amsterdam, Sofronie Foundation, and tech leaders like TomTom, Adyen, Just Eat Takeaway.com, and Miro. Together, they are creating an exciting space where you can explore cutting-edge technology, unleash your creativity, and develop skills that will shape your future. Get ready for an exciting new way to learn, create and grow!
Joey Flu and Patricia Darmin are the program leaders at TUMO Amsterdam.
Their passion lies in combining technology, education and creativity. At TUMO, they ensure that young people get the opportunity to develop digital skills in an innovative and playful way. From AI and design to programming and media. Their mission is to create an inspiring learning environment with TUMO where experimenting, discovering and developing are central.
With their background in AI and education, they aim to develop TUMO Amsterdam into a place where young people not only develop new skills, but also discover their own talents and interests. Together they are making TUMO a place full of creativity, innovation and fun!
Future generations
TUMO Amsterdam is a key initiative within OBA Next, the Amsterdam Public Library’s innovation program. OBA Next reimagines the library for future generations, exploring cutting-edge concepts and experiences. What will tomorrow’s library offer? Who will you encounter there? This visionary program paves the way for a state-of-the-art library in Amsterdam Southeast, set to open in 2030.
the history of TUMO
TUMO was formed by an international team of technology, design and education experts who shared the common goal of improving the way we learn. Since launching the first center in Armenia in 2011, TUMO has served more than 60,000 alumni and currently serves more than 30,000 teens each week, 43% of which are girls.
Today the TUMO network includes 14 centers across 10 countries including centers in Paris, Berlin, Zurich, and Lyon with new centers planned to open in Amsterdam, Lisbon and Barcelona among other locations. TUMO Los Angeles will join a strong international network as the first US location.
Sam & Sylva Simonian
TUMO was founded by Sam and Sylva Simonian in 2011 in recognition of the significant support Armenian organizations have given to their education over the years. The Simonians decided to repay the contributions received and support the talent of the current generation of young Armenians by creating the TUMO Center in Yerevan with an innovative educational program.
Marie Lou Papazian
The CEO of TUMO, developed the TUMO educational program and the entire construction project of the first TUMO Center in Yerevan. Previously, Marie Lou led the foundation for the development of Education, where through online educational activities, she brought Armenian students and their peers around the world into contact. Previously, she was a construction manager in New York. Marie Lou holds a master's degree in Computer Science from Teachers College, Columbia University.
